New UK construction minister appointed
Boris Johnson’s government has appointed Nadhim Zahawi as the new construction minister, replacing Andrew Stephenson in the role. Stephenson only occupied the role for three months, himself succeeding Richard Harrison, who quit in response to the government’s handling of Brexit.
Reacting to the news of Zahawi’s appointment, Caroline Gumble, CEO of the Chartered Institute of Building, said: "Construction is a key part of the economy, a driver of jobs and growth. The quality of our buildings has a lasting impact on the wellbeing of individuals and communities across all regions and sectors. We look forward to working with the minister to help ensure that the industry continues to thrive."
