Tenderstream members set to create lasting sporting legacy for Brisbane
The Queensland Government has revealed the exact location for the stadium being built for the 2032 Olympic & Paralympic Games in Brisbane, Australia, designed by Tenderstream member Hassell, alongside COX Architecture. State Premier Crisafulli said: “Building the new stadium at Victoria Park was a choice between spending billions on temporary facilities and temporary stands that delivered no legacy, or securing the future of sports, like the AFL (Australian Football League) with a new home.” Alongside the news, images have been released showing interior views of the venue.
The combined teams at COX Architecture and Hassell have a track record in shaping Australia’s major sporting venues, such as the Optus Stadium in Perth, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and the revitalised Adelaide Cricket Ground. As Queensland-based and Australian-owned practices, both firms focus on creating places that are deeply embedded in their communities. The design team will be supported by a strong consultancy team including Tenderstream member Arup, Azusa Sekkei, spb, and Blaklash, an Indigenous-owned consultancy guiding meaningful and ongoing First Nations engagement throughout the project.
On winning the contract, Lucy O’Driscoll, managing principal at Hassell, stated: “The design for Brisbane Stadium will provide enduring cultural value and enjoyment for the community all year-round. It goes beyond just meeting the needs of major international events by ensuring the venue can be adapted for a wide variety of sporting and cultural uses, making it a genuine asset for the whole community. It will not only deliver a world-class experience for athletes and fans but provide Brisbane with a vital piece of sporting infrastructure of true global calibre – a place all Queenslanders will be proud of.”
