UCLA requests a written response to this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the purpose of selecting an Executive Architect for the proposed CHS 63-127 Wet and Dry Lab Renovation (Project #907029.01).
This project is located in the School of Medicine East building, 6th floor, which is a part of the Center for Health Sciences complex, located at 10833 Le Conte Avenue, on the UCLA campus. The existing 5,000 gsf space is currently utilized as an instructional laboratory with dedicated office space. The proposed project would renovate the existing instructional laboratory space to accommodate a new space program consisting of 1,200 asf of wet lab space, 750 asf of dry lab space and 1,200 asf of office space. This will leave approximately 1,800 asf of remaining space available that potentially will be developed as a teaching laboratory as a separate future project.
The original building construction was completed in the mid 1950’s and seismic mitigation of the building and fire life safety improvements to supply each floor have been recently completed. This proposed renovation will require the extension of the fire life safety improvements to the space being renovated, along with addressing any needed ADA/Title 24 improvements, hazardous material abatement in the immediate area, along with any mechanical, electrical, and plumbing utility modifications required to support the new proposed lab program. Construction cost for the project is anticipated to be in the range of $1.5 to $2.5 million depending on the agreed upon scope of work.
Responses to this RFQ should demonstrate familiarity and experience in the planning and design of clinics and Department of Public Health requirements (Title 22). The project would be designed to comply with California Code of Regulations (Title 24) and disabled access requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project will also be designed to meet the requirements and intent of University of California Regent’s Policy on Sustainable Practices. The project is subject to review and approval by the UC Board of Regents or their delegated authority as well as the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
