Philipps University of Marburg awards contract for new research centre
dichter Architekturgesellschaft mbH have won the 1.66m EUR contract to design a new seminar building and research centre for art history at the Philipps University of Marburg, Germany. The particular design challenge is to create individually recognisable buildings while establishing a coherent urban vision across the site. The Research Center - Deutsches Dokumentationszentrum für Kunstgeschichte Bildarchiv Foto Marburg (DDK) - is one of the world's largest and most influential centres of historical art documentation, unique in Germany for its focus on photography in analogue and digital form. A striking façade for the DDK is required, while the seminar building will cater for a growing number of students with eight rooms for 60 to 100 people. Previous projects by dichter Architekturgesellschaft include the University of Erlangen Centre for Astrophysics.
