5th Oct 2020: finalists announced for Silicon valley landmark
Three finalists have been announced for the Urban Confluence Silicon Valley competition, which is seeking ideas for an iconic landmark in San Jose. Project founders, San Jose Light Tower Corporation (SJLTC), were inspired by the original San Jose Electric Light Tower that existed from 1881 to 1915. The new structure is intended to represent the intersection of modern technology, history, art, architecture, engineering, and place-making as a symbol of San Jose’s and Silicon Valley’s place in the world.
The finalists are:
Rish Ryusuke Saito: Welcome to Wonderland
Fer Jerez and Belen P. de Juan from SMAR Architecture Studio - Breeze of Innovation
Qinrong Lui and Ruize Li - The Nebula Tower
The winning design will be chosen in Summer 2020. SJLTC plans to fully pay for construction of the project and provide it as a gift to the City of San Jose.
